Sunsation’s Schaldenbrand Celebrates 60th at the Shootout

For Sunsation Boats founder and co-owner Wayne Schaldenbrand, the 27th annual Lake of the Ozarks Shootout is extra special. Schaldenbrand, who has been participating in the Shootout for several years, is celebrating his 60th birthday today and is planning on running a couple of the Algonac, Mich., company’s V-bottoms.

Wayne Schaldenbrand (fourth from right) seems to be enjoying himself—and his birthday weekend—in Lake of the Ozarks.

Yesterday Schaldenbrand posted an 89-mph run in a customer’s 36-footer with twin 525-hp Mercury Racing engines, and today he will be heading out in another customer’s 32-footer with twin MerCruiser 496 Mag HO engines.

The company’s all-black 34 CCX center console with triple Mercury Racing Verado 400R engines owned by Adam Carpenter also will be hitting the course. Schaldenbrand said he didn’t know yet if he or Carpenter will be running the boat, which is expected to run in the high 80-mph range.

Along with hanging out at the docks of Captain Ron’s for the final day of the Shootout with several Sunsation customers to celebrate the big day, Schaldenbrand said he is looking forward to seeing all the race fans and folks interested in the company’s sportboat and center console models.

Happy birthday Wayne—here’s to a great day on and off the water!
