Sunsation Testing 34 CCX at Lake St. Clair Fun Run Today

After arriving at the third stop of today’s Lake St. Clair Fun Run in Michigan, Joe Schaldenbrand, one of the owners of Sunsation Boats, returned my call regarding a gorgeous 34 Center Cabin Xtreme (CCX) with triple Mercury Verado 300 engines I saw on the company’s Facebook page this morning.

Sunsation’s latest 34 CCX, which was painted by Mitcher T, took part in today’s Lake St. Clair Fun Run benefitting the Special Olympics.

“We’re out testing the boat right now—we’re in a poker run actually,” Schaldenbrand said.

“On a Wednesday?” I asked.

“Yep, it’s a fun run that Wayne (Joe’s brother and fellow Sunsation owner) helps organize that benefits the Special Olympics,” he said. “He does it every year and this year they’re celebrating raising more than $250,000. There’s probably a dozen or so Sunsation customers here; there are 70 boats total. It’s sold out. It’s a Wednesday run and it sells out every year—it’s incredible.”

(Editor’s note: Look for a wrap-up from the 18th annual Lake St. Clair Fun Run hosted by the Lake St. Clair Powerboat Club on speedonthewater.com tomorrow.)

The new 34-foot center console features triple Mercury Verado 300 engines custom-painted to match the boat.

Schaldenbrand said the new 34-foot silver-and-black center console—painted by Mitcher T with custom-painted engine cowlings to match—was supposed to be another company demo boat, but a customer of Captain’s Choice Boats in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., wanted the boat so the Algonac, Mich., builder sold it.

“He said if we could get it to him for the 4th of July weekend, he’d take it—so we did it,” Schaldenbrand added.
