Not only did last week’s Support Our Troops Poker Run hosted by MidwestBoatParty.com provide 27 rides to military members and their significant others, the ninth annual event raised more than $21.000 for H.E.R.O.E.S. Care. The poker run, which took place Friday on Missouri’s Lake of the Ozarks, included more than 100 boats and 300-plus participants.

While there were 10 card stops along the popular lake, the teams, which included people from as far as Louisiana, Texas and Pennsylvania, had to hit five or more spots to be able to play their hand at the Friday evening party.

“For the first time in the nine years this event has been happening, all three of the winning hands were military members we invited to the run—it was awesome,” said Amber Grisham, one of the promoters for the event.

It was easy to tell that Grisham was proud of the event’s success as well as the feedback received from many of the service men and women who enjoyed the run.

Of course after taking home the second-place winnings and getting to ride on a B&H Performance Boats Water Rod 300, U.S. Marine Corps Veteran Jared Reary and his fiancé, Lindsey Molner, had nothing but positive things to say about their experience.

“This poker run for H.E.R.O.E.S. Care was so much fun it was unreal,” the couple said. “First of all our boat captain, Steve Grier and his wife, Christy, were some of the nicest people we have ever met. They took us out on their own personal boat, which was absolutely gorgeous. We raced all over the lake going from bar to bar having the time of our lives. Not only was it fun, it also was the fastest we’ve ever gone on the water.

“When we made it back to Dog Days, we proceeded to try our luck at pulling a winning poker hand,” they continued. “Our eyes lit up when Lindsey pulled triple queens and a pair of 7s, a full house. We knew it was good but we also knew someone would probably beat us. Only one person did so we took second and won $1,000 dollars. The money couldn’t have come at a better time seeing as we’re getting married in October and we still have things to pay for. This was by far one of the best days of our lives! H.E.R.O.E.S. Care is a godsend that has helped us and touched our lives in such a dramatic way. We will be always forever grateful to all they have done for us and we can’t wait for next year!”
