SV Racing Begins Testing Today With Factory Billet Power

Anglers and other recreational powerboating enthusiasts on Lake Winnebago in Oshkosh, Wis., today will have a chance to catch SV Racing, a 39-foot Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats raceboat powered by new Factory Billet engines, in action. Vinnie Diorio, the throttleman for the Supercat-class team, and team crew chief Gary Swanson will run the canopied catamaran for the first time with its new engines installed and their rigging complete.

“Since we put in the motors we’ve changed a lot of the rigging,” Diorio said. “We just want to make sure there are no major vibrations or anything like that, because we’re planning on doing prop testing next weekend. It’s about 50 degrees and cloudy here now, but next weekend it’s supposed to be sunny and in the 60s.”

Diorio and Swanson have set up shop at Sweetwater Performance Center and Marina in Oshkosh, the host venue for the Four Horsemen Poker Run, where Swanson works as the general manager. Simon Prevost, the team’s Canadian driver, is not able to enter the country at this time per COVID-19 restrictions, so Swanson will handle the driving chores today.

Diorio said he is confident that by the time the offshore racing season begins the United States-Canada border will be open and that Prevost will join him in the cockpit. The Lake Race on the Lake of the Ozarks in Central Missouri currently is scheduled for May 28-30. If the schedule holds, it will be the first race of the American Power Boat Association Offshore Championship Series.

“I have a really good feeling about it—I think it’s going to happen,” Diorio said. “So we have to get ready for it.”

Diorio paused, then laughed. “We just really want to go racing,” he said. “We can’t wait.”
