Talbot Excavating Team Cat To Be Ready For Key West Worlds

More than a year in the making, the much-anticipated Talbot Excavating catamaran that will compete in the Super Boat International’s Stock class will be ready in time for the organization’s 2014 Offshore World Championships in Key West, Fla., in November. That’s the word from Grant Bruggemann, the team manager and throttleman for the Superboat-class Broadco outfit, who is rigging the 32-foot Doug Wright catamaran at his shop in Bradenton, Fla.

The cat arrived at the rigging facility five weeks ago.

“We’ve drilled the transom and ordered all the parts,” said Bruggemann. “We’ve had to work on it between races. When we get back from Port Huron (this weekend’s Offshore Powerboat Association race in Michigan) we’ll finish it.”

Bruggemann said that it will take 300 to 320 man-hours to complete the cat’s rigging and that there is “slight chance it will be ready in time” for SBI Nationals Sept. 26-27 in Clearwater, Fla.

“It’s the first wide-body Doug Wright 32 with the egg-shaped cockpit capsule for the driver and copilot,” said Bruggemann. “We did a few things that held up the completion process, but good things are worth waiting for.
