Teague Custom Marine Gets Creative With ‘Mystery Boxes’ And More

In a normal year, the Teague Custom Marine team currently would be playing catch-up from a full week of supporting the annual Desert Storm Poker Run in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. From pitching in to provide boat rides for veterans and at-risk children, establishing a popular display in the Desert Storm Street Party and TCM namesake Bob Teague delivering the safety address during the pre-poker-run drivers’ meeting, the Valencia, Calif., the company is a longtime and essential contributor to the event.

But with this year’s Desert Storm happening rescheduled for September 30 through October 4 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Teague Custom Marine crew stayed put last week at their Southern California headquarters. Typically, the company moves a heavy volume of branded apparel during the Thursday night street party, and that gave TCM vice-president of marketing Cherilyn Noack an idea.

0420 sotw square325“We did an apparel ‘mystery box’ that people can call and order or order online,” she said. “We tried to do something fun because we weren’t in Havasu last week selling apparel like usual.”

The TCM gear Mystery Box can be ordered in $40, $20 and $10 versions.

Despite the decline in pre-season prep work, a ripple effect Noack credits to the postponement of Desert Storm, the company remains busy. Teague Custom Marine’s showroom is closed to all but employees, so parts pick-ups and boat drop-offs are handled by appointment.

“We actually have a lot of work in the shop right now including a new TCM 1050 EFI engine that’s going to be shipping back east for installation in a Baja,” she said. “So there are definitely still people out there who are maintaining and upgrading boats. We send parts orders regularly to Performance Boat Center, and we just did tailpipes for them.

“We have engines here for Nordic boats and we do parts orders for them regularly,” she continued. “It’s almost like some things are business as usual but other things are so different.”

Teague Custom Marine’s showroom is closed to the public but customers can still arrange for part pickups and boat service drop-offs by phone.
