Team Gotta Go IV Outerlimits ‘Amazing’ In First Shakedown Event

Standing out in the Boyne Thunder Poker Run fleet of high-performance V-bottoms and catamarans presents a challenge. The annual event typically attracts some of the finest go-fast boats in the country, and that was the case during last weekend’s 16th annual happening in Northern Michigan.

But with its superb Stephen Miles Design paintjob and unusual vibrant green bottom, Canadian Dave Scotto’s new Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats SL 50X sporboat powered by dual-calibration Mercury Racing 1550/1350 engines did exactly that on the water and at the docks. For Scotto, his wife, Dawn, daughter, Stephanie and four lucky guests, Boyne Thunder presented more than the boat’s first poker run. It was the 50-footer’s first shakedown event since Scotto took delivery of extended-cockpit beauty last month.

“The boat ran great—everything about it was amazing,” said Scotto, who is currently headed to this weekend’s 1,000 Islands Charity Poker Run in Clayton, N.Y. “I love it, love it, love it. I had it set up exactly the same way as my last Outerlimits, and it handles great. The water was rough and we had no problem. I also loved how the seats held everyone in place.”

“Stephen Miles did an incredible job with the graphics,” he continued. “When the sunlight hits it, the boat just shines. I also had him painted the names of Mike Fiore and Joe Sgro on the underside of the engine hatch. And I love the SeaDek flooring—I ordered it a little thicker and it’s great.” ’”

Scotto ran the 50-footer in 1,350-hp mode during the poker run, as well as in the fun run the day before the main event, Top speed (minus the full crew on board), he said, was 146 mph.

“There’s still a bit more left, even in 1350 mode,” he said. “We’re going to test more later this summer.”

After the 1,000 Islands Charity event, Scotto will haul the boat back to home in Ontario, Canada, and run it on his local lake. From there, he’ll transport Team Gotta Go IV to the Outerlimits Factory Fun Run August 8-9 at the company’s headquarters in Bristol, R.I.
