Texas Outlaw Challenge Teaming with Race World Offshore to Bring Offshore Race and Support to Devastated Texas Communities

In the midst of dealing with his own personal devastation from Hurricane Harvey, Paul Robinson, the organizer of the Texas Outlaw Challenge in Clear Lake, Texas, informed speedonthewater.com earlier today that the popular event is going to add an offshore race to the schedule for 2018.

Texas Outlaw Challenge and Race World Offshore are bringing an offshore race to the area recently devastated by Hurricane Harvey.

Working together with the new offshore powerboat racing series—Race World Offshore—Robinson and Race World Offshore President Larry Bleil, also of the Conch Republic Offshore Powerboat Racing Association based in Key West, Fla., decided to announce the series’ involvement with the Texas Outlaw Challenge (June 21-24, 2018) at a time when the bighearted Texas boating community has been stepping up to lend a hand to those impacted by the intense hurricane.

“The story being told wonderfully by media outlets such as CNN and more is about how the boaters in this community are coming together to aid in the rescue efforts,” said Robinson, whose home in Dickinson is a total loss due to the tropical storm. “Rather than wait to announce the news about the next chapter of the Texas Outlaw Challenge until later in the year, we figured now was as good a time as any being that Larry and his team plan to bring its professional organization of racers to Texas and support this community’s recovery in 2018. Essentially the boaters who usually attend our event are going to be joined by even more boats that are sure to provide assistance toward this disaster in the form of an offshore race.”

The new racing organization is excited to bring an offshore race to Texas as well as help with the recovery efforts.

“We have been working with Paul and his team for some time, preparing to bring our race to next year’s Texas Outlaw Challenge,” Bleil said. “Now, with the area experiencing the disaster following Harvey, this event will contribute much needed revenue to the businesses and people in the region, while providing a spectacular show and much needed relief from all the hard work that it’s going to take to bring the area back.”

Robinson said the offshore race is going to impact the event’s schedule but not drastically.

“We’re adjusting the schedule a little,” Robinson said. “Our top-speed shootout will still be Friday morning and we’ll have time trial races on Friday afternoon. Kenny’s party will move to Saturday—it will still be the premier stop for the poker run—and then Sunday will be the finals of the races.

“There’s no question we’ll be up and running when the time comes for next year’s event,” he continued. “We have a tremendous venue in Clear Lake, which we proved after receiving permission from local agencies to use the lake for the shootout this year, so bringing a scheduled offshore race to the Texas Outlaw Challenge should be a big deal and have a huge impact on the community.”
