The New Hurry Up: Outerlimits SC 46 Catamaran Hull Out Of The Mold

Thanks to a friendship developed between Jason and Laurie Moe and the team at speedonthewater.com over the past several years, we are excited to present a new project series on the website following the build of the Washington-based couple’s all-new carbon-fiber 46-foot catamaran from the team at Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats in Bristol, R.I.

With help from the Moes as well as Outerlimits sales manager Dan Kleitz, speedonthewater.com is planning to bring you a continual sequence of articles following the build of Hurry Up, the new canopied SC 46 that the family plans to power with a set of Mercury Racing 1550/1350 engines.

“When we sold the SV 50 (read about the well-known V-bottom—also named Hurry Up—here), we knew we wanted something a little faster and a little more comfortable overall so we decided to go with the cat,” said Jason Moe, who is extremely excited about his family’s third new Outerlimits model. “We also wanted something we could boat in year round, and the canopied boat gives us that option. We rode in one of the company’s 46-foot cats and it was amazing. This boat, which is in the mold, has a little lighter layup and we’re sparing no expenses. It’s going to be incredible. We plan to hang on to this one for a while.”

Moe said his family, which includes his daughter, Katelin, and his son, Colton, who travel to most poker runs with their parents, can’t wait for the new boat. And while he isn’t prepared to share renderings of the paint just yet, Moe has enlisted the go-to paint shop for Outerlimits—Stephen Miles Design—to handle the paintjob for the 46-footer as he did with his 50-foot V-bottom.

The slideshow above includes images of the carbon-fiber hull being constructed as well as the deck, which will be out of the mold soon.

“We’re going with a very modular design similar to Burton Kirsten’s Jet (which made its debut at the Miami International Boat Show in February),” said Moe, who picked out many of the boat’s options and color schemes during his visit to the Miami show where we caught up with him and the family while they got their first look at Jet, which was arguably the coolest boat at the docks in front of Miami Marine Stadium. “I’m in the excavating business so I think we’re going to bring a little bit of that into the theme of the boat. I’m not a round guy—I like right angles so this new 46 from Outerlimits really appeals to my senses. I’m looking forward to seeing it come together and I can’t wait for everyone to see what we’re doing with it.”

Moe added that he’s having Jim Nall and the team at Broward Trailer in Hialeah, Fla., build a tilt trailer for the 46-foot cat, which will be the company’s first tilt trailer.
