Tickfaw 200 Gearing Up for Massive Showing

Organizers of the Tickfaw 200 Poker Run aren’t changing a whole lot for next month’s 27th annual event in the swamps of Louisiana (May 1-3), although there will be two additional stops for participants to frequent during the two-day poker run, which is hosted by Blood River Landing in Springfield, La.

Casey Harrison, who has helped organize the event for several years, said everyone is excited about the return of Madisonville’s T Rivers Bar and Grill, which reopened recently after being devastated by Hurricane Gustav in 2008. He’s also looking forward to a second stop in New Orleans—Brisbi’s Lakefront Restaurant and Bar on Lake Pontchartrain.

“Now we have two stops in New Orleans and they’re close together,” Harrison said. “They’re a nice contrast, too. There’s Landry’s Seafood, which is more upscale, and then Brisbi’s, which is more laid-back. What we like about the two-day format is people can really hang out and enjoy each stop rather than have one day to jump from place to place, spending the whole time in your boat.”

Other than the new locations, Harrison said everything is status quo. The on-location RV facilities are sold out, there will be live bands at Blood River Landing Thursday, Friday and Saturday night, and the annual chicken drop fundraiser for the fire department will take place at Riverside Bar in Madisonville once again.

With estimates that the event could draw up to 300 boats depending on on-site registrations, Harrison doesn’t know how many boats to expect. He did say that boaters from California and Michigan have already registered, not to mention a substantial amount from Louisiana and the surrounding states.
