Turbine Cat Battle Shaping Up for SBI Nationals
If the current plans of both teams hold, the turbine-powered 50-foot Mystic catamaran Al Adaa’am 96 will square off against the turbine-powered 48-foot Marine Technology, Inc., Miss Mary Mac cat at the Super Boat International National Championships next weekend in Clearwater, Fla. Barring unforeseen changes, it will be the first time during this offshore racing season there has been turbine-to-turbine competition.
“We are planning on going to Clearwater,” said John Arruda, the throttleman for Miss Mary and owner of Turbine Marine, in a text message this morning.

“The race course at Clearwater is very different, so we will have to pace ourselves as well,” Sheikh Hassan. “We will need to see what everyone else is doing and just run the boat. It will also be the last time we race before Key West, although we might have one more test before then.”
