U.S. Boats Arrive For Qatar Cup

A dozen offshore raceboats from the United States have arrived in Doha for the upcoming Qatar Cup, an inaugural international race being co-organized by the Qatar Marine Sports Federation and the Offshore Powerboat Grand Prix. Two more U.S. boats—Peppers and Wicked—are in route. The boats are being held in the secure yard of GAC Pindar, the official global shipping logistics company that is handling transportation of vessels to and from the race.

The voyage from Jacksonvlle, Fla., to Doha took approximately three weeks.

According to Dominic Watson of GAC Pindar, most of the boats arrived last Saturday.

“The boats are currently being cleared by GAC Doha and will then be transferred to their secure compound close to the race site. Everything is being coordinated with GAC, the QMSF and OPGP and its great to know the boats are in Qatar. We are now looking forward to the next phase of the schedule.”

Most of the drivers and teams coming from the States will catch up with their boats in early February. The majority U.S. participants will depart from Miami on Sunday, Feb. 1 in the early evening.

“DoublEdge motorsports is very excited that the boats are in Qatar and ready to go. We are eager to represent Peters & May racing logistics on a world wide stage,” said Ryan Beckley, the DoublEdge’s team’s owner and throttleman. “Our Superstock class should have eigh to 10 boats competing. We know the competition will be very tough but are looking ahead to put our best effort for a strong finish in the Qatar Cup. Driver Tanner Lweis, throttleman Ryan Beckley and crew chief, Chris Economides are excited for the trip and take off on this adventure.”
