UIM Withdraws Torrente’s License After Crash in China
In announcement made from Liuzhou, China, this morning, the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM) has decided to withdraw American racer Shaun Torrente’s provisional super license, forcing the Qatar Team driver to miss the remainder of the F1H2O World Championship season.
According to the F1H2O press release, the UIM race committee made the decision to withdraw his license following his crash with world title challenger Sami Selio of Finland, at the turn after the restart following the first yellow flag incident of the race. The UIM race committee of O.O.D. Li Rui Lin, UIM commissioner Luis Ribeiro and deputy drivers’ representative Duarte Benavente issued the following statement: “With reference to art. 10 – super licenses – paragraph 10.6 on circuit rules, the committee has unanimously decided to withdraw the provisional super license issued to Mr. Shaun Torrente, 07/2012, for dangerous driving and unsportsmanlike behaviour during the race.”
The Qatar Team, which is run by the Qatar Marine Sports Federation, has yet to make a statement, although an e-mail reply from a team representative said the team lawyer is working on the case.
