Unleashed Poker Run Returning To Delta Maze

Set for this Friday, the Unleased Poker Run on the Sacramento/San Joaquin River Delta in Northern California typically attracts 60 to 70 boats. Though the event pulls a heavy contingent of high-performance hardware, vessels of all kinds are welcome.

The third annual event offers two courses with multiple stops for the fleet, which will wind its way through the maze of sloughs that make the Delta one of California’s most interesting waterways. One course is for boats with top speeds of more than 60 mph. The other course is for those that run 60 mph or less. Both end at Windmill Cove for a post-event celebration and poker-hand play.

Though registration is sold out for the Orwood-Discovery Bay starting point, registration for the start at Garlic Brothers in Stockton is still open. The top three poker-hand winners will divide a $10,000 cash prize, according to the event’s website.

The event’s name is a play on that of its nonprofit beneficiary, the Stockton-based Animal Protection League. In addition to supporting spay and neuter programs, the organization provides community outreach programs and care for the pets of the homeless.

Unleashed Poker Run supporters Dale Rayzor of Discovery Bay and his girlfriend, Lisa Molls, have done all three events.

“It’s going to be great,” said Rayzor, who debuted a freshly updated 36-foot Skater Powerboats catamaran called Relentless during the 2021 happening and will run it again this year. “We’re all set—and we’re going to have a doors-off helicopter capturing it all this time.”

Dale Rayzor’s immaculate Relentless Skater catamaran will be part of this Friday’s Unleashed Poker Run fleet.
