Venture Cup Offshore Endurance Race Prologue Slated for June

While details such as class structure, committed teams and course destinations are limited as this point, prologue for the Venture Cup offshore powerboat race, which is being billed as “the world’s longest, toughest and most prestigious powerboat race,” is slated for June 8. That’s according to a press release from the organizers of the event.

A warm-up for the official Venture Cup race in 2014, the prologue reportedly will set off from the Tower Bridge in central London to “begin a 750 nautical mile, four-day, three-country adventure.” The prologue is designed as a shakedown event for the teams and their equipment, the organizers said in the release.

According to the release, the official Venture Cup next year will last 15 days, cover 2,400 miles and visit 11 cities in five countries. Like this year’s prologue, the official event will start in London but it will finish in Monte Carlo and reportedly trace the route of a powerboat endurance race run in 1972.

The release stated that the race will be conducted with “full support and oversight” of the Royal Yachting Association, the primary offshore powerboat racing sanctioning body in the United Kingdom, and the Union Internationale Motonautique, the sport’s international sanctioning body.
