West Michigan Offshore Shines In Grand Rapids, Ready For 2020 Season

Following an impressive and energetic showing at the Grand Rapids Boat Show in Michigan at the end of February, the board members behind the West Michigan Offshore powerboat club are excited about what’s ahead for the 2020 season.

“We’d like to thank everyone who attended the Grand Rapids Boat Show and made the show lots of fun for all us involved with WMO,” said Roger Zuidema, the club’s enthusiastic president. “It’s going to be a great year. Membership is up over 20 members from last year at this time and the energy coming from new members has been contagious.”

Zuidema thanked new board member Steve McCormack and his wife, Jenny, for allowing WMO to display their recently refurbished Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats 37 Stiletto at the show. He said the 37-foot V-bottom got a lot of attention, which in turn helped WMO share its mission of bringing passionate boaters together and giving back to the community.

WMO also was proud to welcome Sophia Conroy to the team as its spokesperson for the 2020 season. Conroy, who is a junior at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Mich., majoring in communication with a minor in advertising and public relations, did a great job hosting several social media videos from the boat show.

Growing up on boats, Conroy loves the boating lifestyle and spends summers detailing boats through her company, Top Deck Cleaning. She has ambitions of becoming an on-air personality after college.

The WMO board members had a great time at last month’s Grand Rapids Boat Show.

With the boat show in its rearview mirror, WMO is looking ahead to its Spring Kickoff Party and Make-A-Wish Auction on Saturday, April 18, at Boatwerks Waterfront Restaurant, which is followed by the WMO Spring Golf Outing on Saturday, May 16. The rest of the club’s season is outlined in depth on its website, starting with a Blessing of the Boats on Sunday, May 24, which leads into the Muskegon Powerboat Weekend (June 19-21), then the Rock The Coast Fun Run (July 17-19), then the Gold Coast Summer Blast (August 21-23) and finally the season finale—the Fall Fun Run (Sept. 19).
