Westrec Marinas Excited to Show Off New Haulover Marine Center

Coming off a successful few days at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, the team behind Westrec Marinas’ all-new Haulover Marine Center is beyond excited about both the immediate and long-term future of its enormous waterfront property in North Miami.

The long-term future of Haulover Marine Center includes an endless amount of opportunities between the marina’s sales, storage, maintenance and concierge services, all of which are highlighted by the state-of-the-art fully-enclosed storage facility featuring 508 racks that can accommodate boats longer than 50 feet and even hold boats weighing more than 15,000 pounds at the top of its five-rack-high system. The facility also includes two of the largest marine forklifts ever built—courtesy of Wiggins Lift Co., in Oxnard, Calif.—and was built to withstand Category 5 hurricane conditions.

According to John Louis, Westrec’s southeast regional manager, the new Haulover Marine Center, which is located on the Intracoastal Waterway at Bakers-Haulover Inlet, is arguably the biggest and best property in Westrec’s collection of nearly 30 marinas across the country.

“In my opinion there really isn’t anything like it, which is the reason we built it the way we did,” said Louis, a certified marina manager who has been in the marine business for more than 20 years. “We have people coming from all over the U.S. and the world just to look at what we built. One of the things we’ve always taken pride in as a company is staying on the cutting edge of technology—we attend tradeshows all over the globe looking for new ideas and products to move the industry in the right direction.

“We’re also proud of our environmental impact and the awards we’ve won for our efforts,” he continued. “The new facility at Haulover is a perfect example. We have a closed-loop zero-discharge wash-down system; even our fish cleaning station macerates the remaining pieces of the fish and disposes them into the sewer system. We wanted to make sure the footprint we created was a manageable one.”

Louis, who owns a 30-foot Motion Powerboats catamaran, also expressed the gratification his company has in aligning with Larry Goldman, the owner and founder of Xtreme Powerboats to be the primary sales and service center at Haulover Marine Center.

“The reason we turned to Larry and Xtreme is because we expect the best of the best, and in the South Florida high-performance boat market, Larry and his team are easily in the upper echelon,” Louis said. “I’m looking forward to joining Larry for the Key West Poker Run and getting to know even more people in the performance boat community.”

Along with having immediate access to Biscayne Bay as well as the Atlantic Ocean, which Louis said is a significant benefit for people who keep or launch their boats at Haulover Marine Center, Louis added that the facility was constructed for the future to keep up with boat designs that continue to get longer, taller and wider.

“The average boat length we have here at Haulover is around 36 feet, and the boats nowadays aren’t getting any smaller,” Louis said. “We have camera systems to help us load and unload boats. We have every brand you can think of in here and a variety of services to cater to all types of boaters. Most of our facilities have a special event focus—it’s something we try to offer at our locations because it gets people using their boats—and Haulover is no different.

“Getting the facility up and running has been a lot of fun, but I’m pretty sure it’s going to be even more fun moving forward,” Louis concluded.
