Weyant, Stancombe Set to Team Up in Superboat Vee-Class Boat

Two notable offshore racers—Trent Weyant and Micheal Stancombe—have decided to join forces to race Weyant’s 27-foot Activator V-bottom in Super Boat International’s hotly contest Superboat Vee class later this year.

Trent Weyant and Micheal Stancombe are going to team up to race Weyant’s 27-foot Activator at the SBI race in Clearwater, Fla.

The new TNT Offshore Racing teammates, who have known each other for many years but never raced together, are looking forward to getting some seat time in the boat, which is powered by a single Crockett Marine Engines SBI-spec motor, before they take to the course for their first race in less than two months.

“I took a little hiatus, and I’m ready to get back out on the course,” said Weyant, a multi-time world champion who purchased the Activator four years ago but hasn’t raced in more than two years because he was focused on building up his landscaping business, Island Lawn Care in Palm Coast, Fla. “The boat, which has gone through the car equivalent of a ‘frame up’ restoration, is almost finished. We should have the engine back from Tyler Crockett in the next week or so, and then we have some little things to button up on the boat.”

Weyant said the team is planning to compete at the SBI National Championships in Clearwater, Fla., on October 1.

“It’s going to be fun racing with Micheal,” said Weyant, who will handle the wheel while Stancombe, a fellow world champion, throttles. “We’ve watched each other race for years and we’ve joked about racing together at every bar we belly up to. We thought well it’s time to crap and get off the pot so we’re going racing.”

Stancombe, who is the owner of Pro Marine RC and well-known for his racing days with his father, George, in their Peppers Racing 36-foot Skater Powerboats catamaran, can’t wait to get in the boat.

“I’m excited to race in Superboat Vee—it’s a good class with excellent competition,” Stancombe said. “A few people have asked me why I’m ‘stepping down.’ I don’t consider this a step down from the cats. Heck it’s the biggest class in offshore racing right now. I have a feeling it’s going to be a lot of fun. I just hope we can get some seat time in the boat before Clearwater.”

Weyant and Stancombe are currently seeking sponsors to help fund TNT Offshore Racing’s campaign in Clearwater as well as at the Key West Offshore World Championships in mid-November.
