2nd Amendment USA Returning To The Lake Of The Ozarks Shootout

Fans of the well-known 2nd Amendment USA offshore racing team should be excited to hear that throttleman Neil Wobbe and driver Karl Steger are returning to this year’s Lake of the Ozarks Shootout after a five-year absence in the team’s 36-foot Spectre Powerboats catamaran. The duo, with support from a new sponsor, is planning to make several passes on the three-quarter-mile course tomorrow and Sunday in search of its third Top Gun class title.

According to Wobbe, a nine-time world champion racer (and second from left below), the team is thrilled to be back in the boat at one of his all-time favorite events, which is presented by Performance Boat Center. He said that after claiming five world championships as well as a Super Boat International Triple Crown, the 2nd Amendment USA team retired the 36-footer after winning the Manufacturer P3 title in 2017 with hopes of moving into a canopy class boat.

“We’ve missed running the boat at the Shootout so we’re super happy to be coming back,” Wobbe said, adding that the boat is going to be parked in front of Captain Ron’s Bar & Grill, the Shootout host venue, on dock No. 1. “With a new boat on hold for various reasons, the 2nd Amendment USA team has pulled together and decided to bring the famous boat back to the People.

“Unfortunately we will not have our T-shirt trailer at Captain Ron’s this year, but fans can contact us through the team Facebook page for available merchandise,” he continued. “We are excited to promote our new ‘We the People’ campaign and we’re planning to fill our online store with new 2nd Amendment USA merchandise.”

Wobbe said that T.J. Kirgin, whose support for the 2nd Amendment is well known through his podcasts and gear store, Tacticalshit.com, is helping the team launch its “We the People” promotion, which provides a chance to win a Grand Power Stribog S (Mini Bog) gun and other shooting supplies. He also explained that all net proceeds from the sweepstakes—200 tickets will be sold at $50 each (there’s no purchase necessary to win)—will be donated to the Firearms Policy Coalition to help further 2nd Amendment rights.

“I plan on supporting the team’s efforts throughout the season and helping build a campaign to promote positive awareness about the 2nd Amendment,” said Kirgin who has a store in St. Peters, Mo., and two Florida locations in Clearwater and Orlando. “I’ve always loved powerboat racing so this is a win-win for all of us. I think it was a great idea to get the boat out there again and I’m happy to be a part of it. I’ve never done a sweepstakes like this before but it was an idea we came up with to support the raceboat and raise more awareness about it and the campaign.”

As part of the campaign, Kirgin, who is known for his Shots Fired podcast and radio show of the same name on Real Talk 93.3, invited the team to display the boat at the store in St. Peters Labor Day weekend if anyone is interested in coming to meet the team, taking a closer look at the catamaran or purchasing tickets for the sweepstakes.

“One thing we decided to do, which I think is pretty cool, is we’re going to be printing vinyl decals for the boat that feature the signatures of everyone who enters the sweepstakes,” said Wobbe, who plans to campaign the boat with its updated graphics at a few offshore races in Florida to close out the 2022 season.

Wobbe added that the team plans to dedicate a memorial pass to friend and crew member Charlie Becker, who passed after a battle with cancer in 2021.
