Adams And Seaton Moving Forward With Records Runs

Longtime friends and former Discovery Bay, Calif., neighbors Tony Adams and Steve Seaton remain on track to tackle the American Power Boat Association-sanctioned Ocean Cup Series endurance event—Huntington Beach Around Catalina Island (October 1). As originally planned, they’ll be using the Southern California run as a tune-up for an attempt to break the San Francisco to Los Angeles endurance record of 5 hours and 57 minutes, which was set by Bob Nordskog, Bob Teague and Norm Teague in 1988. The Northern California duo is still shooting for a fall 2022 attempt at the San Francisco to Los Angeles record.

Buddies for life, Tony Adams (left) and Steve Seaton are gearing up for more adventures on the water.

In April 2021, Adams and Seaton acquired a 2004 Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats 47 GTX V-bottom powered by 572-cubic-inch supercharged engines for the project. They’ll run the boat with existing power for the Ocean Cup Series event this fall and repower the 47-footer in the offseason with dual-calibration Mercury Racing 1350/1100 engines for the San Francisco to Los Angeles record attempt.

“The 1350/1100 engines will be going in this winter,” said Seaton, the owner of Seaton Marine in Discovery Bay, who teamed up with Adams 14 times from 1998 to 2012 to pull skiers in the Catalina Ski Race. “We’re only going to user the 572s for the Ocean Cup race.”

To prepare for the upcoming Ocean Cup, Adams and Seaton have been consulting with Nigel Hook and Janet Wilson—the driving forces behind the Ocean Cup Series.

Prep work on their 47-foot Outerlimits continues for Adams and Seaton.

“They been incredibly helpful,” Seaton said. “We’re still in the process of acquiring all the safety equipment required.”

Added Adams, “Working Janet and Nigel has been amazing. They’re just the nicest and most helpful and knowledgeable people.”
