Big Thunder Marine BFD Fun Run A Big Freaking Deal Again For Brand-Loyal Owners

A few months back at Fountain Powerboats, Donzi Marine and Baja Marine headquarters in Washington, N.C,, a reporter asked Fred Ross—the owner of all three brands—to define and position them in the performance-boating world. Ross was his usually enthusiastic, passionate and insightful self.

Like all three powerboat brands, Fountain had fine representation during yesterday’s Big Thunder Marine-supported customer appreciation event. Photos by Jeff Helmkamp copyright Helmkamp Photos.

“Everybody has different aspirations,” he said. “If you’re a Camaro or Mustang guy, you’re probably a Baja guy. If you want more power and muscle, you’re probably a Fountain person. And if you want a Ferrari or a Mercedes, you probably would like a Donzi.

“The interesting thing is that while a lot of the Fountain and Donzi guys started with Baja, there’s not much crossover between Donzi and Fountain owners—they don’t even want to hear about the other brand,” he added, then laughed. “They’re incredibly brand loyal, and so are the Baja guys.”

That brand loyalty was on full display yesterday at the fourth annual Baja, Fountain and Donzi Fun Run produced and sponsored by Big Thunder Marine in Osage Beach, Mo. The daylong happening attracted approximately 90 Baja, Fountain and Donzi models to the Lake of the Ozarks for a day on the water preceded Thursday night by a catered welcome dinner in the full-service dealership’s “Speed and Luxury” showroom. Models on display in the immaculate facility included the first 2021 Donzi 38 ZRC sportboat with a full wraparound windshield and Mercury Racing 565 engines, two Fountain 38 Sport Consoles and one Fountain 34 Sport Console and a Fountain 43 NX center console dressed in a vibrant Sport Console graphics and interior package.

Jeremy Anderson, Big Thunder Marine’s general manager, described the fourth-year happening as a customer-appreciation event. The dealership and its sponsors picked up the tab.

“We have very loyal boaters with those three brands,” said Anderson, echoing Ross’ sentiments. “The weather was perfect for this year’s event—and we can’t wait for next year’s event July 21-22.”

Brand loyalty in action—Baja style.
