Brand X Gets Dirty Money Skater Looking Better Than Ever

There are a few reasons why Dirty Money—a 2015 Skater Powerboats 368 catamaran—is one of the more recognizable boats amongst the poker run community. First of all, the orange, black and white 36-footer, which is powered by twin Mercury Racing 700SCi engines, is gorgeous. Second, the owners of the boat, Beau and Tiffiney Renfroe of Georgia, are two of the nicest people around. Third, the Renfroes use their Skater—as well as their Deep Impact Boats center console and Fountain Powerboats sportboat—and they’re not afraid to travel to Florida, Missouri and beyond to enjoy boating with their friends.

This year the Renfroes can’t wait to take the revamped Dirty Money to several events, including the Tickfaw 200 Poker Run in Louisiana in early May, the Jacksonville River Rally & Fun Run in Florida in June, the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout and Super Cat Fest in Missouri in August, the Cape Coral Poker Run in Florida in October and the Key West Poker Run in November. Thanks to the team at Brand X Hi-Performance Marine in Pompano Beach, Fla., the Skater is looking mighty fine after a complete cockpit overall that was done throughout the 2017 season and wrapped up earlier this year.

Of course Beau Renfroe is excited with how his Skater looks overall but he’s also ecstatic just to be able to use the boat without having to worry about what’s left to finish on it still.

“The boat turned out awesome—Jason (Ventura, owner of Brand X) and everyone else who had a hand in the project did an incredible job,” Renfroe said. “The biggest hiccup when we started this whole thing was that we were going to continue to use the boat. Planning around that was a nightmare since we would go to a run with the boat then take it apart after and put it back together for the next event. Even if something wasn’t finished, Brand X made something temporary so that it looked like it was.

“Like I said, it was a planning nightmare—luckily I didn’t have to do it and I never noticed it because Jason and his guys are so good at what they do,” he continued. “They really do take care of everything for us so well. Heck we keep three boats with him so I think that says it all.”

The Renfroes took the nearly complete Dirty Money to the 2017 Key West Poker Run hosted by the Florida Powerboat Club and have since added a few finishing touches to the completely overhauled cockpit, including installing Lumishore LED lights inside the cockpit and engine compartment as well as underwater LED on the transom.

“We still need to figure out the footrests but that’s about all we have left to do, unless Beau wants to add some fresh air vents because I think that’s the only thing this boat doesn’t have now,” Ventura said, adding that Renfroe is one of the best Brand X clients he’s ever had. “We did a complete re-rig of the boat to make it look like Beau and envisioned wanted it. We built a new dash, bucket seats, rear seats with headrests pods, integrated grab handles and a step down in the middle of the four seats, new side panels and a full electronics upgrade.”

Ventura said the entire original cockpit was removed and Brand X went to work on designing and fabricating a new dash, the rear seat pods, the side panels and more—with the Renfroes providing input along the way. All of the boat’s original factory wiring was removed, upgraded and then neatly secured back in place, then the new dash and trim pieces were properly fit. The floor, dash and rear seat pod were then painted to match the graphics and follow the flow of the design throughout.

Jamie Borg of Cutting Edge Interior was enlisted to handle the new upholstery, and Renfroe said he was blown away by Borg’s attention to detail.

“Jamie does such an amazing job, I have no complaints,” Renfroe said. “He’s very meticulous. If he’s not happy with it you’re not getting it back. Overall it feels like a new boat inside thanks to everyone involved with it. Having five Garmins, as well as one in the rear of the console for the passengers to see, makes a big difference. It’s much more modern now and the detail is even more pronounced than it was before.”

Along with the new look boat, Renfroe said he has some updated apparel coming for the season. Between his sister, Sheridan Renfroe, who owns We Do Tees, as well as IR Designs, Renfroe has some new team gear in the works.

“We’re not doing as many events this year—we bought a home in South Florida last year so we’ve been spending more time down there,” Renfroe said. “We are looking forward to using the Skater. It’s running so great and it looks incredible. We can’t wait to see what everyone thinks.”
