DCB Completes ‘Smoking’ M33R Sport Catamaran No. 3

With the recent wildfires still burning at the time in the Lake Elsinore, Calif., area, the team at DCB Performance Boats had no choice but to shoot its third M33R sport catamaran with a smoky background. Like the first two 33-footers from the El Cajon, Calif., custom catamaran builder, the boat is powered by twin Mercury Racing Verado 400R outboard engines.

DCB M33R No. 3 is going to EFK Custom Marine and Motorsports in Layton, Utah, which also carries the Larson runabout and Berkshire pontoon brands. Brett Kenley, the owner of the company—he also owns a Ford dealership and originally started EFK as an accessories business to serve it—said that a test ride in DCB’s demo M33R at the Lake Havasu Boat Show in April convinced him to order one as a stock boat.

“I had a DCB F-32 with big motors so I was a little hesitant about outboards,” he said. “But after going for a ride in their M33R—I think we ran close to 120 mph—and considering the fuel costs and the maintenance advantages, it all made sense.”

Kenley will pick up the boat from DCB on Friday, then bring it back to Utah and likely run it this weekend. Of course, he said, it is for sale.

“It’s a stock boat and, for now, it’s kind of my boat,” he said. “But it’s always for sale.”

Editor’s Note: A DCB M33R will be included in this Thursday’s Speed On The Water/Mercury Racing Verado 400R Outboard Sport Catamaran Roundup at the Lake of the Ozarks in Central Missouri.
