Desert Storm Poker Run Gets Approval To Use Traditional Street Party Location

Two weeks after announcing its alternate plans to relocate its one-of-a-kind display of high-performance powerboats, trucks, ATVs and more to Sara Park, the Storm Poker Runs team behind the annual Desert Storm Poker Run in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., announced Thursday night that the city approved the use of McCulloch Boulevard to once again be the host venue for the late-April event’s Thursday evening Street Party.

According to a press release, the team is busy working with the City of Lake Havasu on final logistics and details to “roll with the normal Street Party location” in downtown Lake Havasu City. Along with presenting sponsor Kicker Marine, Storm Poker Runs owners and event organizers Christina and Jimmy Nichols are excited to be able to bring some sort of normalcy back to the lake following last year’s event cancellation due to the pandemic and the carryover of possibly having to hold the Street Party at a different location this year.

“This is the first event we have been able to host in more than a year, and we are ready and excited,” Jimmy Nichols said. “Christina, myself and the entire Storm team have pushed, persevered and overcome obstacles put in front of us to provide this spectacular event. We appreciate everyone’s dedication to our team and the Storm events. As promised, we will deliver a one-of-a-kind experience, and we look forward to seeing you here in a few weeks. The Storm is back, and you might want to brace yourself it is going to be epic!”

The event begins Wednesday, April 21, with the Krusin’ 4 Kids charity rides followed by a kick-off party and charity auction sponsored by Eliminator Boats. The Street Party takes place on Thursday on McCulloch Blvd. from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., and the poker run begins with a parade through the channel on Friday at 10:30 a.m., followed by a pool party, dock party and concert. Saturday features the event’s three-quarter-mile top-speed Shootout from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and concludes with an awards party from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The DCB Performance Boats representation in the Desert Storm Poker Run Street Party will be over the top as usual.

Christina Nichols added that they intend for this to be the best Desert Storm event yet.

“We all have been patiently waiting for the world to get back to some sort of normalcy and Desert Storm is just that,” she said. “We’ve been working countless hours on all the details to bring you the event you have all come to love.”

She said the Street Party will have the same familiar look and that attendees will once again be able to get up close and personal with some of their favorite machines and people. She reiterated that the event’s “Eye of the Storm” is going to serve as the event headquarters for the day. Not is that the location to register and pick up event apparel, there is going to be many vendors on hand, including Kicker Marine, Gator Wraps, Copper Still Distillery, PoundFoolish Watches, Jack FM, Bomber Eye Wear, Bradshaw Transport, Noggin Boss, Good Boy Vodka, food, beer and more.

“We are going to kick off the boating season with an exciting four-day event,” said Robb Rodriguez, who handles marketing and social media for the event. “What is guaranteed is a fun, relaxed, open-air, friendly environment with amazing boats from manufacturers all over the country such as DCB, Domn8er, Interceptor, MTI, Reindl Powerboats and Skater Powerboats. We have well-known engine builders like Teague Custom Marine, Mercury Racing and Boostpower. You will see many of your favorites and regulars at the event along with some new faces and companies that cannot wait to share in the excitement of Desert Storm.”

With the potential of schedule adjustments and other news to come from the event throughout the next few weeks, Christina Nichols encouraged everyone to follow their social media pages on Facebook or Instagram.
