Eliminator Boats On A Roll With 31XO Speedster Deliveries And Orders

With four models delivered to date and eight more on order, the newest Speedster in the Eliminator Boats line—the 31XO Speedster, the X stands for extra wide with a 118-inch beam and the O stands for outboard only—has been an undeniable success. All four 31XO models have been ordered with twin Mercury Racing 450R engines and all four clients have been blown away by their boats’ fit and finish, performance and overall appearance.

Although the new model took a little longer than anticipated to complete with pandemic-generated delays, the company wrapped up four of the new 31-foot catamarans in 2021, showcasing the first one last April at the 2021 Desert Storm Poker Run in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., and recently completing delivery of Tim Newton’s 31XO Speedster, which was on hand for the Eliminator Boats Regatta in late October on Lake Havasu even though a few parts of its interior had not been finished until earlier this month.

Newton, who officially took delivery of his red, white and black beauty a little more than a week ago, has owned his fair share of Eliminator models—the midcabin 31XO Speedster is his fourth to be exact—and he is excited to start using and getting to know his new boat. His previous boat from the Mira Loma, Calif., builder was a 2019 27 Speedster walk-through with twin Mercury Racing 300R engines. Prior to that he owned a 30 Daytona and a 27 Daytona.

“The new 31XO Speedster isn’t as wild as my 27 Speedster was in terms of graphics—I wanted to go a little more subdued this time around—but everywhere this boat has been so far, people go crazy for it,” said Newton, who spends most of his time boating on Lake Havasu and hopes to do a few poker runs, including the Desert Storm event in April and the Lake Powell Challenge in Northern Arizona in mid-September. “I haven’t had the chance to drive the boat much—Jake and Chris ran it Friday during the Regatta and I ran it up to Pirate Cove Resort on Saturday. We haven’t dialed it in but Jake ran it to 110 mph during the Regatta. He also did some incredible 360-degree turns at 60 mph and the boat was flat as can be.

“I’m excited to have a bigger and wider boat to take in rougher water,” he added. “We took our 27 Speedster up to Lake Powell for the poker run a few years back and got beat to shit in the narrows. The 31 should fare much better.”

Newton said he’s looking forward to testing out different propellers and dialing in the boat with assistance from the Eliminator team as well as Adrian Barrett of Barrett Custom Marine in Lake Havasu City.

“Working with the crew at Eliminator has been great,” he added. “I think the fit and finish keeps getting better. There were several delays in the build process, but a lot of that was out of Eliminator’s control. The boat turned out great overall.”

Newton’s 31XO Speedster features bow seating for four, a JL Audio sound system, a custom CNC carpet kit, a stout carbon-fiber tie bar, Shaun Torrente Racing brackets, a four-person intercom system and Garmin GPS display screens in the dash and one in the front seat headrests.

“Tim has always been a great customer,” said Eliminator’s Mark Baker. “He knows the build process very well and is always patient and understanding. We can’t wait to see his boat out on the water this year.”

Baker added that things have been humming along at Eliminator recently as the custom boat manufacturer has 26 different boats in production and almost 50 boats on order. “We’re looking to deliver 30 boats in 2022—it’s going to be a busy year,” he said.

At the end of 2021, Eliminator also delivered a Carbon/Kevlar fully capped 31XO Speedster midcuddy model powered by twin Mercury Racing 450R engines to customers Victor and Kathleen Granillo. Featuring a carbon-fiber tie bar and hardware, GatorStep flooring and bright green gelcoat, the 31-footer also includes a custom stereo with a pair of one-off telescoping hatch speaker pods that raise to project sound to the rear and sides of the boat.

Another Carbon/Kevlar 31XO Speedster that was delivered last year—Ron Harnden’s blue, yellow and black beauty that is featured in the Speed On The Water 2021 Year In Review magazine—was well received by its owner who lives in Lake Havasu City and ordered the 31-footer early on in the new model’s development process despite being unsure whether he’d like an outboard-powered boat or not.

After taking delivery of the company’s second 31-footer in July and getting a chance to learn the twin Mercury Racing 450R-powered boat since then, Harnden seems plenty happy with his decision.

“The boat is so beautiful and its performance is amazing,” he said. “It is super responsive and so smooth on the water.”
