Faster Center Consoles Drive Mercury Racing Revolution 4 XP Prop Revamp

A popular choice for performance-oriented, multi-outboard-engine center consoles, Mercury Racing’s Revolution® 4 XP propeller line is going through a revolution of its own. Gone is the 14.63-inch-diamater version in 26- and 26.5 inch pitches, replaced—thanks to the Fond du Lac, Wis., company’s investment in a new casting—by a 15-inch version offered in 26-, 26.5-, 27- and 27.5-inch pitches.

“The latest high‑performance center console boats, paired with multiple Mercury Racing 400R and 450R outboards, are requiring a taller pitch propeller due to the speeds being achieved,” said Nick Petersen, Mercury Racing Performance Propeller manager, in a press release this morning from the company. “They are running right to the rev limiter. This new propeller offering will open the speed range for customers who prefer the design of the Rev 4. A boat that’s now out of rpm at 86 mph may be able to reach 90 mph without hitting the rev limiter.”

The Revolution 4® XP propeller is “especially effective when dialing in multi‑engine, stepped‑bottom performance center console boats and single‑engine bay boats,” according to the release. The prop helps lift stern-heavy boats because its long-barrel-length design “acts like a miniature trim tab and provides stern lift at speed for ideal angle of attack and an improved ride in a variety of conditions.” Tip-cup in the four blades of each wheel create bow-lift for better handling and rough-water ride.

Available now with a three-week production time, the Mercury Racing Revolution 4 XP propellers are offered in left‑ and right‑hand rotation in standard Pro Finish. The props can also be ordered in Lab Finish  Lab Satin Finish. Lower-pitch models down to the 13 inches also are offered.
