Florida Powerboat Club Hosting Two Saturday Afternoon Events In Key West

Once Florida Powerboat Club members arrive in Key West, Fla., after the outfit’s signature poker run—set this year for November 10-15—nothing is mandatory. Participants are free to find their own diversions for the next few days including the club’s Poker Run Village, the American Power Boat Association Offshore World Championships and the annual Thursday night Speed On The Water Key West Bash at the Sandbar Sports Grill on Greene Street.

And Key West offers plenty of extracurriculars. In that way, the city at the end of the road is a dream destination for Florida Powerboat Club president Stu Jones and his crew.

But for club members looking for something organized exclusively for them on Saturday—a day without powerboat races—Jones has two options this year. For those who want to a do little more boating and a lot more chilling, there’s a fun run to Woman Key. Jones is expecting a healthy contingent of members to participate if the weather and water conditions are good.

The Florida Powerboat Club also will host a members only part at Dante’s Pool Bar and Restaurant, which Jones said was the Saturday night party venue for the club’s Spring Fun Run 15 years ago.

“For those who had enough boating and/or the weather is not cooperating we are setting up a party at Dante’s pool with Wail 99.5 FM radio host Bill Hoebee as our master of ceremonies,” he explained. “We have done a Saturday party in Key West before, but it’s been many, many years.”

The club’s traditional Saturday night celebration at the Conch Republic Seafood Restaurant will follow the daytime happenings.
