Florida Powerboat Club Planning Miami Grand Prix Rally

Coming to Miami May 6-8, the inaugural Formula 1 Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix is a very big deal—one that’s been in the making for years—for the South Florida community. That’s not lost on Florida Powerboat Club president Stu Jones, which is why he’s putting together an event dubbed the Miami Grand Prix FPC Rally for that weekend.

The event is limited to 25 to 30 boats. Registration has not yet opened, but when it does there likely won’t be a registration fee, according to Jones.

“I just want to do a fun run on Friday to the Upper Keys,” he said. “People can wear their Ferrari gear or their Lamborghini gear, or whatever ‘colors’ they have to support their favorite Formula 1 teams. It should be a lot of fun.”

Jones said he’s been planning to produce an intimate event around the Miami Grand Prix since the Formula 1 event was officially announced.

“Saturday is qualifying-day for the race,” he said. “I’m planning to have a watch-party at my house in Pompano Beach from noon to 3 p.m. Between my own docks and my neighbors, I can handle 25 to 30 boats. And whoever is still kicking around on Sunday can come over and watch the race.”

The next event on the Florida Powerboat Club roster is its Tampa Bay Poker Run, which is scheduled for April 21-24.
