Forenski Shooting For New Avalon Pontoon Speed Records At Tiki Lee’s Shootout
Heading into its second year this weekend, the Tiki Lee’s Shootout On The River in Sparrows Point, Md., is a sure bet to entertain spectators with a powerboat top-speed contest on a three-quarter-mile course. A host of high-performance catamarans and V-bottom sportboats will make multiple passes on the course on Saturday following Friday’s poker run.
But thanks to Bill Forenski of Delaware-headquartered WMF Watercraft and Marine—a returning primary sponsor for the event—new custom 27-foot Avalon Catalina and Excalibur tri-toon models powered by twin Mercury Racing 450R outboard engines, as well as a new 25-footer with a single 450R outboard, also will be in the shootout mix.
As a returning sponsor of the event and an Avalon/Tahoe pontoon dealer, WMF Watercraft and Marine is all in for this weekend’s happening in Maryland.
And if Forenski has his way, the Catalina model will top 80 mph during the event.
“We’re hoping break some records,” said Forenski, who ran a twin 450R outboard-powered Avalon Excalibur tri-toon to a top-speed of 76.9 mph in last year’s inaugural event. “I’ll also be running another Avalon Excalibur with Mercury Racing 450Rs and a smaller Avalon with a single outboard this weekend.”
Courtesy of WMF Watercraft and Marine, several Avalon pontoons will compete and be on display during the upcoming Tiki Lee’s Shootout On The River.
“Between now and then, we have a lot of testing to do,” he added. “I just got all the Avalon boats we are bringing to Tiki Lee’s last week. When you prepare these boats, you have to set them up properly with propellers and engine height. That’s something we pride ourselves on at WMF.”
The single-outboard 25-footer, as well as one of its twin-engine siblings, will be on display throughout the weekend at the venue—there is a boat show and demo day planned for Sunday.
“I think it’s going to be a really good event,” Forenski said. “It was last year.”
Dubbed Frost Bite, this single Mercury Racing 450R outboard-engine Avalon beauty is already turning heads.
