Gallery Of The Week: 2015 Miami Boat Show Flashback
I’d be lying—and I mean really spinning a whopper—if I said it seems like just yesterday I was strolling the exhibits of the Miami International Boat Show in 2015, the last time it was held in South Beach at the Miami Beach Convention Center. It doesn’t seem like yesterday. It seems like a lifetime ago.

Consider this: At the 2015 event, Mystic Powerboats introduced its first 42-foot center console and 44-foot catamaran. The latest and greatest 38-foot Pure Platinum catamaran took center stage in the Skater Powerboats exhibit. Mercury Racing introduced its first 400-hp supercharged outboard and dual-calibration 1550/1350 sterndrive engines. Seven Marine unveiled its 627-hp outboard. Cigarette Racing Team showcased a 50-foot Marauder sportboat inspired by a Mercedes-AMG GT S sportscar.
Yes, I had to look up all of that. (But thanks to the speedonthewater.com archives and search function, I can—as can anyone else who visits the site.) My memory is good, but not that good.

Every year, I approach the Miami show with a dead-even mix of exhilaration and dread, and this one brings heightened levels of both because the event returns next month to its original but since-renovated Miami Beach Convention Center home. I hope the show’s refurbed digs are indeed refurbed, because the last time I walked out of that then-tired dump—not knowing if the show would ever return—I felt no pangs of nostalgia. I only felt relief combined with a whole lot of get me home.
And now? As the saying goes, I can’t wait to see what they’ve done with the place.
