Growing Charleston Harbor Poker Run Set For Mid May In South Carolina

Organized by Boat Life of Charleston—a Facebook group managed by Chad Walton—the third annual Charleston Harbor Poker Run in South Carolina is moving to a new host venue to accommodate what the Waltons believe is going to be a bigger turnout this year.

With an increasing number of participants expected for this year’s event, which is going to take place May 15-17 at Safe Harbor Bristol Marina and the Charleston Marriott, organizers are encouraging interested boaters to register early this year. According to the event’s Facebook page, an official event page with registration information is set to go live following next week’s Miami International Boat Show.

With all proceeds from the event going to benefit the Carolina Children’s Charity, this year’s poke run is going to cover close to 80 miles of waterways in and around the Charleston harbor area and head up several rivers to various card stops. According to the Facebook page, participants are going to receive a steak dinner along with a free lunch on Saturday. Cost to enter is $250 per boat, and includes two dinner meal tickets, two lunch meal tickets, two shirts and one card hand. Of course extra hands, shirts and meals can be added for an additional fee.

Organizers said there will be plenty to do after hours at the hotel and in downtown Charleston, and that photographer Benny Brawley is going to be on hand to cover the poker run. For more information on this event or to become a sponsor, contact Chad Walton at chadjwalton@yahoo.com.
