Inside SOTW Mag: Formula 380 SSC—Cool Crossover

When Formula Boats decided it was time to shelve its FAS3Tech line of stepped- hull V-bottom sportboats earlier this year, there was an obvious sense of sadness amongst the performance boat community. The Decatur, Ind., family-owned company’s 353 FAS3Tech and 382 FAS3Tech models have been staples in the industry for decades so it was a tough blow to say the least.

Formula Boats has an impressive new offering with its 380 Super Sport Crossover powered by twin Mercury Racing 520 engines.

But such are the times with the ever-evolving boating market, and Formula didn’t wait long to release a somewhat comparable replacement in its 380 Super Sport Crossover, a 38-foot-long, 11-foot-6-inch-wide beauty of a sterndrive-powered sportboat. Of course the new 380 SSC, which is based off the sea-carving 21-degree-deadrise FAS3Tech stepped hull, doesn’t take the place of the go-fast-focused 382, but it comes pretty darn close. It also fits nicely in Formula’s Crossover lineup between the 330/350 Crossover Bowriders and the established 400/430 Super Sport Crossover and All Sport Crossover models, many of which have optional outboard engine packages as well.
