Inside SOTW Mag: Nailed It—DCB M33R Catamaran Profile

Like several new-model DCB Performance Boats builds before it, the M33R was covered rather extensively from start to finish on our website. And like the others, the boat was impressive right out the box. Unlike other new DCB introductions before this one though, the boat has received an overwhelmingly positive response from the DCB team and everyone who has taken a ride in the 33-foot catamaran powered by twin Mercury Racing Verado 400R engines. I’m one of those people.

Thanks to the man who makes the wheels go round at DCB—general manager Paul Miller—I got to ride shotgun in the M33R, which served as a pace boat for one of the Desert Storm Poker Run groups, with Miller and DCB’s Nicole and Taryn. And thanks to a poker run roster of 175 boats and a spectator fleet of three or four times that many boats on Arizona’s Lake Havasu in April, I got about as good of a real-world test ride as it gets.

As one would imagine, the water heading around the island and south down the Colorado River to the first card stop in Havasu Springs was pretty mixed up and choppy with wakes on top of wakes coming from different directions.
