Lake Of The Ozarks Shootout Sets Another Record With $445,000 In Donations

During a Sunday evening ceremony at Shawnee Bluff Vineyard in Eldon, Mo., the organizers of the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout were ecstatic to announce that the 33rd annual event raised a record-setting $445,000 for 40 charitable organizations, including seven local fire departments.

That’s an increase of more than 10% from the impressive $400,000 in donations the event handed out in 2020. The donation increase, as well as the sustained participation growth of the late-August event on the popular Central Missouri waterway during the past few years, continues to prove why the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout, which is presented by Performance Boat Center, is arguably the premier powerboating event in the country.

“We are so grateful to the boating community for continuing to support this event for 33 years,” said Ron Duggan, who has led the event committee since his business, Captain Ron’s Bar and Grill in Sunrise Beach, Mo., took over hosting the event in 2008. “Of course we have to thank all of the sponsors and contributors that make these record donations possible each and every year.”

Duggan said he continues to be amazed at the number of volunteers who contribute to the event.

“We had 579 volunteers that logged 7,964 hours,” he said. “That’s a lot of hours. Plus, our volunteers are incredible—they continue to welcome all the visitors and make it such a fun week of events.”

Duggan also gave a lot of credit to the team that organizes the successful Saturday night auction that takes place during Super Cat Fest at Camden on the Lake Resort. The dinner party and auction, which is one of many Shootout-related events that take place around the lake for more than a week before the top-speed shootout contest, has been a substantial fundraiser for the event for several years.

Although the committee isn’t sure how the event is going to continue to raise the donation bar next year—the 2022 Lake of the Ozarks Shootout dates are scheduled for Aug. 27-28—each and every member, including the new director of the event, Leah Martin, is up for the challenge.
