Lake Texoma Primed For New ‘Texoma Throw Down’ Fun Run

For the first time since a tragic accident happened nearly 12 years ago during the annual Highroller Poker Run on Lake Texoma, which borders Texas and Oklahoma, an organized fun run called the Texoma Throw Down is going to take place next month at a new marina in Kingston, Okla.

According to Casey Moore, the 30-year-old owner of a Cigarette Racing Team Café Racer who is organizing the May 19th fun run, the event’s host location is going to be at Marina Del Rey, which is a first-rate new facility on the lake. He said he has four other marinas, including The Island at Highport Marina, lined up as stops for the fun run.

“The response to bringing an organized fun run back to the lake has been great so far,” said Moore, who recently retired from the Air Force—as in last Thursday was his first day of “civilian” life—following close to 11 years of service. “We have a lot of performance boaters committed to coming already, including Jake Nossaman, who owns the Wired Up MTI cat and matching center console. I’m expecting at least 50 boats, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we end up with more.”

Moore said the run, which has a $125 entry fee, is going to include top-notch T-shirts, a post-run raft-up at The Islands party cove area and a poker hand drawing during Saturday’s awards party, which is taking place at Marina Del Rey’s Barbay with live entertainment, food trucks and more. He added that there is going to be $5,000 in cash prizes and that the remaining proceeds are going to benefit a local animal refuge.

To organize the run, Moore said he created a Facebook page, the Texoma Powerboat Association, and has been working with local authorities. He also lined up about a dozen or more sponsors for the first-year event as well as photographer Kevin Johns of Instant Memories.

“Along with my time, I’m putting my own money into this because I love boating and want to get it back on the lake more by showing people how much it has changed for the better,” said Moore, who thanked Collision Works, Legend Marine, Speed Shop Marine and more for sponsoring for the event.
