Livestream Broadcast A Go For OPA Worlds

Absent from the Offshore Powerboat Association’s Crystal Coast Grand Prix in Morehead City, N.C., last month, a livestream broadcast is on tap for the organization’s Crystal Coast World Championship October 22-25 in the same venue. Veteran offshore racing broadcaster and racer Mike Yowaiski of Maryland has been driving the online coverage effort for the event, and he has brought on Unscene Productions in Ocean City to handle the broadcast.

“We were a little short on funds but Unscene Productions stepped up,” said Yowaiski. “They really wanted to work with us and gave us a great price—and a few sponsors came on board to support the broadcast.”

Current sponsors include Wazzup Racing Engines, River’s Bend Marina, Caldwell Moore Performance Center, Checkmate Powerboats and Battle Wagon Boats. Broadcast sponsorship opportunities are still available.

Either the Offshore Powerboat Association’s YouTube channel or its Facebook page—or both—will carry the broadcast of the Friday and Sunday races. That had not been finalized when this story went live.

Joined in the broadcast booth for coverage of the 2019 American Power Boat Association Offshore Championship Series by fellow marine industry veteran and offshore racer Martin Sanborn, Yowaiski primarily will be on his own in Morehead City.

“Billy Moore will be there and he’ll be dropping by for the part of the broadcast, and I’m looking forward to that,” he said. “I don’t know the venue. I’ve never broadcasted from there. The course is really interesting and I’ll be broadcasting from the top of a 10-story building, so I’ll be able to see all of it. I’m excited we got this done and I’m excited to be going to Morehead City to cover the races.”
