Miami Boat Show Poker Run At 75 Entries—Including First-Time DCB M44 Catamaran

Though registration is still open for next weekend’s Florida Powerboat Club Miami Boat Show Poker Run from the colorful South Florida city to Key Largo, club president Stu Jones isn’t expecting many more signs-ups. The February 24-27 run is the second event of the Pompano, Fla.-based outfit’s 2022 season following its successful Winter Poker Run in late January, and it’s already at capacity.

“The turnout is right where we expected it to be,” said Jones. “Online registration is still open but members will have to self-book lodging as we have absolutely no rooms left. And dockage at Gilbert’s Resort and Tiki bar is only available in the back basin.”

In addition to serving as the Thursday lunch stop, the Gilbert’s venue will be home to the club’s in-water boat show. Jones added a boat show of his own after the Miami International Boat Show organizers cancelled their event in 2021. As previously reported on speedonthewater.com, Jones is limiting the display this year to the docks in front of Gilbert’s.

Among the participants this year will be Southern California’s Mauricio and Angie Vivanco, who own the most recent DCB Performance Boats M44 Widebody catamaran and typically run on Lake Havasu in Arizona. Not only will it be the first time a 44-footer from the El Cajon, Calif., builder has been in the Miami Boat Show Poker Run fleet, it will be the first time couple has run a boat Florida—and in saltwater, period.

“I’m excited but at the same time a little nervous,” said Vivanco, who enjoyed the Miami International Boat Show with his wife last weekend. “We have the boat at Grove Harbour and we’re are going to run it Wednesday afternoon. Then we’ll run with Florida Powerboat Club on Thursday. I’m thrilled.”
