Miss GEICO Team Seeking Essential Supplies To Deliver To The Florida Keys

For the next two days, the Miss GEICO offshore racing team will be collecting vital supplies for residents of Florida Keys communities severely damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Irma last weekend. The Riviera Beach, Fla.-based team will push its 40-foot team trailer into delivery service, and the collection and delivery process will be ongoing.

The Miss GEICO offshore racing team is pressing its tractor/trailer into services as a delivery vehicle filled with good donated to help those in need in the Florida Keys.

“We can get to Mile Marker 70 and the Islamorada area, which has been very hard hit,” said Scott Begovich, the Miss GEICO Team throttleman who’ll drive the rig to the Keys. “We’ll go down, drop off what we collect, then come back and fill the trailer. Then we’ll go down again.

“Mike Fosse of the STIHL team is on his way down there now with a skid-steer loader to clear out a neighborhood in Islamorada,” he continued. “We also gave him all the water we had collected here, so right now we’re empty. We’re going to be here at the shop for the next two days collecting goods and then maybe I’ll take the trailer to a Publix and or a Home Depot to take donations there, and then head down.”

Begovich said the list of supplies needed by those most significantly affected by the storm include “everything you would need to go camping like bug spray, charcoal and lighter fluid.” Other essentials needed include medicine, bandages and toiletries.

“There’s also a desperate need for chainsaws,” he said.
