MTI Reveals Brand New 390X Catamaran With Mercury Racing 450R Engines

In front of a packed house at Haulover Marine Center in North Miami this evening, the team at Marine Technology Inc. unveiled its all-new MTI 390X catamaran powered by twin Mercury Racing 450R engines.

Modeled after the Wentzville, Mo., company’s popular 340X sport cat, the new 39-footer was constructed using completely new CNC molds with integrated steps up the back. Featuring a 10-foot, 6-inch beam and a length of 39 feet, 4 inches, the hull weighs 6,000 pounds. The six-seater, which has a 150-gallon fuel capacity, was painted in house and is equipped with a luxurious, fully loaded cockpit protected by a wraparound windshield.

“We spent a couple of days at Lake X (Mercury’s testing facility in Florida) dialing in the boat and boy did it exceed our expectations—we’re really excited about the new 390X and how well it performs,” said Randy Scism, MTI’s owner and founder. “It’s the 340X on steroids is the best way I can describe it. It’s bigger, more stable and handles incredibly well. It’s the next step up for sure, and it wouldn’t be possible without Mercury Racing and the new 450Rs.”

Scism said the 390X runs 120-plus mph with the 450-hp supercharged 4.6-liter V8 outboard engines, and will run remarkably well with Mercury Racing’s Verado 400R engines if a customer doesn’t want to step up to the 450R package.

“I’m in—the boat is a homerun,” said one lucky MTI customer who got to ride in the boat at Lake X and already placed his order. “For a bigger boat, I was super impressed. The thing does everything just right. It turns so well for its size and the acceleration is unbelievable with the 450s.”

Scism plans to run the boat in the Florida Powerboat Club Key West Poker Run on Thursday and, in conjunction with the Speedonthewater.com/OffshoreOnly.com Key West Bash that evening at the Sandbar Sports Grill, have the boat on display on a tilt trailer on Greene Street. He said he can’t wait to see how people respond to the newest addition to the MTI lineup.
