MTI-V 50 Center Console At 18 Orders—And Counting

Just four months ago, MTI debuted its first V 50 center console during its Owners Fun Run in the Florida Keys. Now the Wentzville, Mo., high-performance powerboat builder has orders for 18 new 50-footers, all—like hull No. 1—powered by five Mercury Racing 450R outboard engines. To date, two have been delivered and two more, one going to former offshore racing great Bob Kaiser in Detroit and the other headed to a buyer at the Lake of the Ozarks, which is home-water for the MTI team, are being delivered soon.

Though the people at MTI are grateful for such strong demand for a new model with a seven-figure price tag, they are not completely surprised by it.

“It is still really exciting and special with the V 50 being a new model,” said Taylor Scism, the company’s client relations manager. “We thought the 50 would appeal more to people who want to run in the ocean, travel to the Bahamas and so on. And even though they might not overnight on it, people know it’s an option if they want to.”

Among those buyers with ocean-going ambitions is Jake Nossaman of Oklahoma City, a longtime MTI customer. Nossaman previously owned an MTI-V 42 center console, which he loved.

In June, he took his new 50-footer to the Bahamas as part of a group that included MTI principal Randy Scism and several other friends. Nossaman returned from the weeklong adventure more than a little impressed with his new ride.

“I wanted a bigger boat for the ocean, and it’s just amazing,” he said. “You get the ride of a bigger boat but the handling of the V 42—I think it even carries the bow a little better. The performance is so amazing I can hardly even describe it.”

Neither Taylor Scism, MTI’s client relations manager, nor her father is worried that V 50 sales will cut into those of its smaller sibling. MTI currently has orders for 25 of its 42-footers.

“They keep coming in all the time, and for that we could not be more grateful,” she said.
