Mystic Expanding Production Capacity

Next year’s expansion will add much-needed square footage to the Mystic plant.

Thanks to outsourcing of paintwork to Oversprayer Custom Painting and Designs in Longwood, Fla., Mystic Powerboats was able to reclaim 2,000 square feet of production space by removing the paint booth—formerly a post-curing “oven”—in its facility in DeLand, Fla. According to company principal John Cosker, that’s just the beginning of a significant plant expansion that will begin next year.

“Hopefully, we are going to add another 12,000 square feet,” said Cosker. “We are going to need the space. We are bulging at the seams and using every square foot of space we have right now.”

The new building will be constructed either in front of or behind the current facility. The added square footage will enable departments to change locations for greater efficiency—more lamination space will mean assembly moves to the current spot where lamination happens, and rigging will take over the current space used for assembly. On the aesthetic front, Cosker said he plans to include a space/showroom for finished boats modeled after the facility at Shogren Performance Marine, Mystic’s global dealer based in McHenry, Ill.

Said Cosker (above center), “We are bulging at the seams and using every square foot of space we have right now.”

“Scott Sjogren has a beautiful showroom,” said Cosker. “We want to duplicate that here so we have both ‘north’ and ‘south’ Mystic showrooms.”

Said Sjogren, “I’m really excited about the facility expansion at Mystic, not just for the improved production of their current luxury center console and catamaran models but for other new models they’ll be building in the near future.”
