New Owner To Bring Back Velocity Brand

With the recent purchase of the Velocity Powerboats assets in Sanford, Fla., by longtime brand enthusiast and former general manager Scott McCormick, the new owner plans to relaunch the once-vaunted V-bottom line and give it “a new lease on life” according to a press release sent yesterday. “My love for the product and the people who build and own a Velocity is unmeasurable,” said McCormick said in the release.

According to the release, McCormick became a fan of the brand in the early 1990s when its production facility was located in DeLand, Fla., When he opened his transportation business in 1994, Velocity was his first customer and he began spending time at the factory “rigging, setting up boat shows and selling boats” with company owner Steve Stepp, founded Velocity in 1976.

In 1999, McCormick and Stepped partnered in a successful Factory-class Velocity raceboat. Their campaign saw them earn 15 podium finishes and set three Union International Motonautique speed records, the release stated.

Eventually, McCormick became the company’s general manager..
