Nor-Tech Owners Fun Run Set For Lake Of The Ozarks

Nor-Tech owners headed to Central Missouri for Lake of the Ozarks Shootout week (August 22-28) will have an event of their own to enjoy on the popular Midwest waterway. Dubbed the Lake of the Ozarks Nor-Tech Owners Fun Run, the Midwest Boating Center-organized event is set for Saturday, Aug. 27, and will start from the Porta Cima Yacht Club in Sunrise Beach.

In addition to its Saturday fun run for Nor-Tech owners, Midwest Boating Center will have two Nor-Tech center consoles—a 500 and a 390—on display during Super Cat Fest at the Camden On The Lake Resort.

“There’s so much going on at the lake during Shootout week,” said Jason Taylor of Midwest Boating Center, Nor-Tech’s Midwest dealer. “You have the street party Wednesday night, the annual Friday poker run and Super Cat Fest Friday night, where we will have a 50-foot Nor-Tech center console and a 39-foot Nor-Tech center console on display.

“So we are hosting a fun run this year starting out of Porta Cima at 10:30 a.m. after a light breakfast,” he continued. “From there we will head to the Neon Taco for an hour, then to the Tap and Grill and finally to 1932 Reserve, where we will serve wine, beer and appetizers from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.”

A few years ago, Midwest Boating Center in Lake Ozark hosted its first Lake of the Ozarks happening for owners of the Fort Myers, Fla.-built center consoles, catamarans and V-bottoms on Friday evening before the Shootout. The Porta Cima-venue event attracted more than 150 Nor-Tech owners and their guests from around the country for a complete dinner, and Dufner and company at Midwest Boating Center were planning to expand the successful happening with something on the water.

Then came the pandemic years of 2020 and 2021. Though the Lake of the Ozarks was open for business throughout, travel was restricted and difficult at best. So the event was paused for two years.

Now it’s back—and with a fun run element to lead it off. Sponsors for the daylong happening include Mercury Racing, JL Audio, Castaway, Marine Concepts and Wozencraft Insurance Agency.

“This event is open to all Nor-Tech owners,” Taylor said. “The only thing they have to do—and we really need everyone to do it so we have enough food and goodie bags—is register.”

Nor-Tech co-founder Trond Schou, who was featured in the first season of Speedonthewater.com’s In The Lead series powered by Mercury Racing, will be on hand for the event.

“I’m excited to be coming back to the Lake of the Ozarks to support (Midwest Boating Center owner) Marvin Dufner and his team,” Schou said. “An owners-group fun run gives us the opportunity to spend time with our customers, and so many of them have become extended family during the years.

“Marvin is a super host and he always puts on great events,” he continued. “I am looking forward to spending some time at the lake and saying hello to old friends.”
