October Sarasota Fun Run Cancelled

Planned as a fundraiser for Suncoast Charities For Children, the Boo On The Bay Fun Run set for October 24 in Sarasota, Fla., has been scrubbed. Lucy Nicandri, the executive director of the nonprofit organization, and her fellow organizers had hoped to repeat the success of the inaugural Sarasota Blast On Bay Fun Run, which attracted 120 boats and raised $50,000. But the event was failing to shape up as hoped.

“This decision was based upon a small number of boats pre-registered, and potentially poor weather conditions projected for that weekend, said Nicandri. “Announcements like this are always difficult. Our primary goal for all the events we organize, are for them to be successful fundraisers for the charity. In fairness to our generous sponsors, and dedicated volunteers, we felt this was the best decision.”

With title-sponsor backing and organizational support of Simon Williams of Sarasota-based Shore Thing Storage, Nicandri and her team launched the June fun run event after being forced to cancel the Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix. The weeklong happening is one year’s largest fundraising events for Suncoast Charities for Children. The June Sarasota Blast On The Bay Fun Run will return prior to the Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix races in 2021.

Plans are already underway to expand the event,” said Nicandri.
