Though mechanical issues claimed a few entries at the last minute, the sixth annual Birds On The Bay Formula Rendezvous based out of Comstock Yacht Sales and Marina—the sportboat and cruiser builder’s New Jersey dealer—went off without a hitch last weekend. The event, which attracted 16 boats and more than 100 attendees, reportedly raised $8,000 for a local family with a boy suffering from Dravet Syndrome, a rare and catastrophic form of intractable epilepsy.

“All the money we collected we handed off to the family that evening,” said Tom Glowinski, the organizer for the event. “And thanks to Comstock Marina, the boy diagnosed with Dravet Syndrome got his first boat ride on a 2016 Formula 350 SS.”

The docks at Comstock Marina, which sponsored Saturday night’s catered dinner, served not only as home for the boats for the weekend but “social headquarters” for the entire event. Entertainment included a guitarist/vocalist during the day, and a saxophonist sponsored by Formula Boats that evening. The following morning, six Formulas headed for “F Cove,” a popular raft-up and rendezvous spot for local powerboat owners, for the day.

Glowinski said he hopes that the Birds On The Bay event, which supported a charity for the time this year, will grow in 2016. He was encouraged that Formula owners from outside the area, including one from Massachusetts who brought a 302 SR-1 with Kaama surface drives, attended the rendezvous.

“Now that we’ve gotten our feet wet a little more, we’d like to get more people involved,” he said.
