Roar Offshore Fun Run Returning As Poker Run

As it did in 2019, the six-race American Powerboat Association Offshore National Championship Series will finish up with the Roar Offshore Fort Myers Beach—scheduled this year for October 7-9—in Southwest Florida. That event like all others in the 2020 APBA series was cancelled last year in response to the pandemic, but organizers Tim and Cyndee Hill and their team launched a new event in the early October time period dubbed the Roar Offshore Fun Run.

That happening returns October 14-16 as the Roar Offshore Poker Run presented by Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary.

Organizers of the 2021 Roar Offshore Poker Run are hoping powerboat-owning fans in town for the prior weekend’s offshore racers will stay in town for some speed on the water of their own. Photos from the 2020 Roar Offshore Fun Run by Pete Boden copyright Shoot 2 Thrill Pix.

The event, which will be hosted out of the Westin Cape Coral Resort, raised $7,000 for the Fort Myers Beach Lions Club in 2020. It is open to 60 boats.

The inaugural happening attracted 35 boats.

“We would love to more than double that fundraising total,” said Tim Hill. “The Fort Myers Beach Lions Club’s largest fundraising event is a local shrimp festival and it was canceled again in 2021.

“This year we are featuring a Thursday night block party with participant boats and race boats on display in the entertainment district of Cape Coral,” he continued. “Also new will be a traditional poker-run start behind pace boats. Last year we just had two speed groups leave the docks accordingly for the first stop.”

The cost for each boat including its captain and one crew member is $475. Additional passengers are $150 per person. Would-be participants can register by clicking here.

Though the event is presented by Nor-Tech, vessels of all kinds are welcome.
