Scafidi And Wade Returning To Super Stock Ranks With New Sponsor

Super Stock-class world champion Nick Scafidi of Shadow Pirate team fame and Brad Wade, who formerly throttled for the Jackhammer team with driver/owner Reese Langheim, will share the cockpit of Scafidi’s 32-foot Doug Wright raceboat this season. Starting this weekend in Cocoa Beach, Fla., and backed by Florida-based Your Storage Units, they will compete at American Power Boat Association-sanctioned events in Sarasota, Fla., Michigan City, Ind., Fort Myers Beach, Fla., and Key West, Fla.

“I’m looking forward to running this season with Brad and just having a lot of fun,” said Scafidi, who retired after the 2019 season and put the boat up for sale. “I don’t feel a lot of pressure. We’ve run a couple of times together but not in a race, so we’re going to use Cocoa Beach to get a feel for the boat without any pressure.

“I bought a plane—I’ve been going to the Bahamas, fishing and diving, enjoying the good life,” he added, then chuckled. “My only fear is I’ll get sucked back into offshore racing. I’ve never done any drugs. For me, going fast in a boat and racing is my fix. We’ll see.”

Wade also exited the sport in 2019. “I’m looking forward to running the boat with Nick,” he said. “The Super Stock class is very competitive and it keeps getting faster and faster.”

Having the veteran offshore racer Scafidi behind the wheel is particularly compelling for Richie Webster, the owner of Your Storage Units, heading into this weekend’s event. In 2019, Scafidi took the Super Stock-class checkered flag in Cocoa Beach, which hosted the first event of the inaugural six-race APBA Offshore National Championship Series.

New graphics are coming for the former Shadow Pirate raceboat.

There currently are 10 Super Stock-class boats committed to compete in Cocoa Beach, according to a P1 Offshore count.

“We are excited to be sponsoring Nick as he returns to action in the highly competitive Super Stock class,” said Webster. “We will be backing him across the six-venue P1 Offshore season with its international television coverage and live streaming. Nick is a formidable competitor and we hope that he can repeat his 2019 victory in Cocoa Beach this weekend.”
