Second Time Even More Of A Charm For DCB M28R Owner

No matter how much they love their new boats, most owners eventually find something they’d add or do differently the second time around. Such is the case of Paul Loska, who is taking delivery of his second DCB Performance Boats open-bow, full-walk-through M28R catamaran in less than a year-and-a-half.

With his new 28-footer, Paul Loska has doubled down with DCB.

Powered by six-cylinder Mercury Racing 400R outboard engines, the Poway, Calif., resident’s first 28-footer turned heads at the 2019 Desert Storm Poker Run Street Party in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. But while Loska had nothing but praise for the cat, Mercury Racing had not yet released its 450-hp V-8 outboard when he ordered the boat. He considered repowering (“But I think it might have cost me almost as much,” he said, then laughed) but instead went with a new build.

“I enjoy the build process,” he said. “And there were a few things I wished I had done a little differently. Of course, I got the 450R outboards, but I also went with bigger Simrad GPS screens, an all-Alcantara interior, an upgraded sound system, more LEDs all over the boat, a foot shower on the bow and Seadek instead of carpet. And instead of a double-axle trailer, I went with a triple-axle trailer.”

Thanks to DCB’s Tony Chiaramonte and Jeff Johnston, Loska is taking delivery of the boat today in Lake Havasu City. Of course, he expects to appreciate it even more than his last M28R. He also expects it to be faster. His prior DCB cat topped 108 mph and he anticipates his new one will reach 115 mph.

One thing Loska already knows beyond question? He’s going to love the open-bow layout.

“It’s not just the extra space for passengers,” he said. “It about ingress and egress. When you want to get to the bow, you don’t have to climb onto the dash and step over the windshield.”
