Seismic Shift—DCB Delivers M37R Widebody Catamaran To Former F-32 Owner

Retired from production, DCB’s F-Series catamarans earned a loyal customer following for the Southern California-based custom high-performance powerboat builder. Among those fans are Nick Child and his wife, Monnica, who own powersports and RV dealerships in the Salt Lake City, Utah, area. Four years ago, the Childs bought a 2008-built F-32 with Mercury Racing 700SCi engines, and they thoroughly enjoyed it on their home-waters of Lake Powell.

DCB delivered M37R Widebody catamaran No. 4 in Lake Havasu City, Ariz.

But with today’s delivery of their new M37R catamaran in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., the Childs officially entered the most modern era—from a popular and a decades-successful center-pod cat hull to a new full-tunnel cat—of DCB creations.

“We definitely made a big swing,” said Nick Child. “It took a little time to get used to but (DCB representative) Tony Chiaramonte showed me a few different things and I loved it. It’s so stable and so easy to manage at low speed. And I was floored at how easily it cruised at 90 to 100 mph. It felt effortless to carry the speed. I was very impressed.”

Nick and Monnica Child will spend most of their time in their new outboard engine-powered 37-footer on Lake Powell.

The fourth M37R to be delivered, the six-seat cat is powered by twin Mercury Racing 450R outboard engines mounted on STR X-Act brackets and is loaded with amenities from a color-matched Alcantara and Cool Touch vinyl interior to fusion-white exterior graphics accented with carbon-fiber panels. Under the deck, the boat has a cuddy interior with two jump-seats and a mini berth—a first for an M37R build. Additional amenities, all installed in the builder’s relentlessly immaculate fashion, include Garmin GPS and Mercury VesselView monitors, an Isotta Fanette steering wheel, DCB’s Stage II stereo system, a six-person intercom system with the boat-to-boat “DCB channel” feature and more.

The carbon-fiber, vacuum-infused half-capped foam-filled 37-footer arrived in Lake Havasu City on a triple-axle MYCO custom trailer.

Child is 30 years old. When he was 17, he fell in love with a DCB F-29 kept at Antelope Point Marina, one of Lake Powell’s most popular gateways, in Page, Ariz., and dreamed of owning one. With his classic 32-footer and now his contemporary 37-footer dubbed Wild Child, he made that happen. And while he adored his first DCB, he couldn’t be happier with his new prize.

“I am beside myself excited,” he said. “DCB exceeded my expectations in every dimension.”
