Statement Center Console Production Booming

Though its sexy 38- and 35-foot performance-oriented center consoles, 42-foot V-bottom sportboat and 50-foot catamaran are hard to miss, Statement Marine—as a company—tends to fly “under the radar.” That’s the way the St. Petersburg, Fla., custom boat builder’s Nick Buis, Todd Werner and Craig Barrie like it. But that doesn’t mean Statement isn’t flush with orders. On the contrary, the builder is running at capacity.

“We are building 38s with quad Verado 400R and quad Verado 350 outboards, 38s with triple Verado 400Rs and triple Verado 350s and 35s with twin 400Rs and and twin 350s,” Barrie said. “Since the Miami show, we’re now offering two different dash layouts and a choice of several lounge/bench seat configurations in the rear of the cockpit.

“The new 350-hp and 400-hp outboards have put Mercury in the position to increase its market share, and that has given us the ability to offer new boats—with a laundry list of colors and options— with new power,” he added, then lauged. “It all puts us in a great position to get to the end of this year and start all over again.”

Buis and Barrie and have worked closely together to streamline Statement Marine’s production processes and maximize efficiency. Buis, who manages all aspects of production for the company, said he’s delighted with the changes they’ve made.

“Everything has improved so much,” Buis said. “Boats are getting out the door on time—boats are getting to customers early. Customers are happy. It’s nice to go to poker runs now. And sales have gone crazy this year.”

Barrie said that Statement will build approximately 20 to 24 center consoles this year. The company also has a 50-foot turbine-powered cat in progress, and will begin lamination on a new 42-foot sportboat powered by twin Mercury Racing 700SCi engines in the near future.
